I am thinking of buying a 2007 Lexus LS 600h.

I am thinking of buying a 2007 Lexus LS 600h. Being a high end car, with all the electrical equipment, I am worried that something might go wrong with it. I'm realistic enough to be ready to spend some money on maintenance (for the size and age of the car). Prior to buying, what do you think I should check out? Is it acceptable to ask the seller if I could take the car to a Lexus dealer to have it checked or is that something unheard of? I don't want to ask in case of sounding like a complete idiot. Not many garages will let you take their cars to be thoroughly inspected. Does AA Ireland provide a vehicle check service where its technicians come out to check your car for a fee?

Thanks for any information at all.

Our answer:

Hi Adrian,

Yes, the AA in Ireland does provide a vehicle inspection service and if anyone, dealer or private, has problems with you getting an inspection done then you need to ask why. A vendor who's honest and confident in their car will have no problem with it, so definitely don't feel like an idiot.

The good news is that, in spite of its fearsome complexity, the Lexus LS is one of the best built cars that's ever existed so as long as it's been reasonably well cared for I'd be amazed if anything on it was broken.
