Tough question, because they both have much to recommend them, although they’re subtly different vehicles. The Vitara will likely be better-equipped and it’s a bit more spacious than the Kona, but it has a narrower choice of engines and less impressive interior finishing. The Hyundai is the slightly more premium product, which means you’ll pay a little more for it, and the styling is not to all tastes (although, we’re guessing if you’re considering one, you don’t mind its appearance), but it comes with a very strong manufacturer warranty that lasts for five years – meaning even the earliest used examples will have lots of warranty left, as it was only launched in 2017. We’d just recommend the Kona with the T-GDi 1.0-litre engine, but have a look at the Suzuki Vitara S with the 1.4-litre turbocharged motor, too.
