They are generally quite reliable, though watch out for rough idling or the engine speed dropping between gears, as those are expensive issues to fix. The clutch mechanism can squeak, but don't worry about that too much. Make sure the power steering is working properly, as the motor can overheat.

Other than that, there are a few electrical issues that can happen, but no worse than any other car that old, so just take the time to check every system.
