How to take ownership of my uncle's car?

My uncle is selling me his car which has English plates. He has been working in Greenland so his car has been in Ireland a year already. I have the English log book. What section do we fill in to change ownership it looks so different to Irish one. I know I will have to pay taxes to change plates but the fact that it’s been in Ireland for a year already is confusing me as we aren’t technically importing it now

Our answer:

Hi Martina,

From the information you've given us, it won't be a simple process. As the car is on UK plates then it has never officially been imported, regardless of how long it has actually been in the country. That process is supposed to begin before the car leaves the UK and there are time limits on when it should be completed, too, which are well gone. The simplest thing to do would be to bring it back to the UK, complete the paperwork there to change ownership and then begin the process of importing it yourself, but even that will be a rigmarole.
