How to register a restored UK car?

I bought a broken down uk registered car in ireland. It had sat for 3 years. I have now rebuilt it. It was a private sale. What should I do to register in Ireland.

Our answer:

Hi Gordon,

This one is a little too complicated for us to give you a simple answer, unfortunately, as imported cars are supposed to be re-registered within 30 days for a start, and depending on when and where the car came from exactly, there may be VAT and import duty applicable, too.

Our advice is to gather all documenation you have, along with provable dates in terms of the importation and change of ownership. Then contact Revenue and present the case and ask for its advice. This is quite an unusual situation and it's likely you'll be advised to just bring the car to the NCTS for inspection.
