How to get rid of smoke smell in my car?

Hi there, I wondered whether you could give me some advice on how to get rid of a strong smoke smell in my car left from the previous owner? Thanks

Our answer:

Hi there,

There are plenty of cleaning and odour-control products you can buy that purport to do this job, but we've found that more natural solutions work just as well. Place either an onion, ground coffee, white vinegar, charcoal or even scrunched up newspaper around the interior (in bowls/containers as necessary), and leave the car closed for a couple of days. This usually works a treat. Renew the material after a couple of days if it's still not quite as odour-free as you'd like. Oh, and the coffee/charcoal/onion smell will naturally dissipate once they are removed from the car.

Whether you go natural or chemical to remove the smoke smell, we recommend that you thoroughly clean the interior of the car before hand, especially the soft surfaces.
