There’s a whole process that needs to be gone through to import a car into Ireland and get it re-registered. The first thing to do is to contact your local NCT centre and book an inspection. They will value the car and advise you if you need to pay any Vehicle Registration Tax. If you’re bringing the car in with you as you move to this country and can show that it was taxed and insured in Bulgaria for at least six months prior to moving then you’ll only pay a nominal fee. If you’re buying the car in from Bulgaria you’ll have to pay a fee related to the car’s Irish market value and what its CO2 emissions are.
