How to calculate VRT on a Panamera?

Hi Shane, I am trying to calculate VRT cost on a Porsche Panamera S4 for a UK registered car. How would I get the cost of VRT? Thank you. Kind regards, Cillian Sheanon

Our answer:

Hi Cillian,

It depends on the year, really, because that will affect its Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) and also what CO2 it is emitting. Getting an OMSP for the Panamera 4S is tricky, because there are very few Panameras in Ireland anyway and the vast majority of the ones sold here were hybrids of some sort.

There have been three variants of the 4S since the Panamera appeared in 2010. In the first-generation car, from 2010-2013 it was powered by a 4.8-litre V8 emitting 254g/km (Band G for VRT, 36 per cent of OMSP). The facelifted Mk1 dropped to a smaller V6, with emissions tumbling to 208g/km (Band F, 34 per cent of OMSP). The current Mk2, still running a V6 and launched in 2017, can emit as little as 187g/km (Band E, 30 per cent of OMSP) depending on its specification, but it typically emits 191g/km so is in the same Band F as its predecessor.

Assuming an early Panamera 4S with the V8 is worth around €38,000 (a rough market price), you’re looking at a VRT bill of €13,680. Realistically, even though the later cars were cleaner, their OMSPs are going to be much higher and, as a result, so will the import costs be – we saw a 2017 4S up for around €100,000, which would mean a VRT bill of €30,000 as a best-case scenario on an imported model.
