Hi Vincent,
You need to book an appointment for a VRT assessment with the NCTS within seven days of bringing the car into the Republic. The dedicated website is at ncts.ie/1206/ and there's a detailed VRT FAQ section there that is very useful, as you need to check that the car in question is deemed to be a 'proper' Northern Ireland car, and not one that made a quick stop there on the way here from England.
On payment of the VRT, you will then be free to register the car in Ireland and, once you have your new vehicle registration certificate (still referred to as the 'log book' by many), you can pay for your tax online.

Ask us anything motoring related and please provide as much information as possible so we can give you the most accurate advice.
