How much VRT on a Nissan Juke?

My sister is giving me her car 2015 Nisan duke low emission diesel how much vrt would I have to pay to bring it over please

Our answer:

Hi Angela,

Though that car had a CO2 rating of about 104g/km when new (the exact figure will depend on the version), Revenue 'uplifts' it to a WLTP-equivalent figure and it works out as 131g/km. That means it's in Band 13 for VRT, which is 19.25 per cent of the OMSP. That's the Open Market Selling Price that Revenue reckons the car is worth in Ireland on the open market. It's irrelevant that you've been given the car for the purpose of this and it's not an easy number to guess, either. There is a VRT calculator on the Revenue site that should help you (search for that in Google) as you'll need to put in a lot more information than you've given us.

As a rough estimate, I'd suggest the car's OMSP could be about €10,000. That would mean VRT of €1,925.

However, you'll have to pay a NOx levy as well, which could be as high as €3,200 on this car if our data is correct.

You've not said where the car is coming from exactly. If it's from England, Scotland or Wales, you could also be hit with 10 per cent import duty and VAT.

In short, you may pay more than the car is worth to get it in.
