How much VRT on a classic import?

How much VRT on a classic import?

I see you have an article from last year stating a 200 Euro VRT for a classic car import. Can you tell me where you got this info? I would love to ship my 1964 corvette from the US to Ireland but am afraid of the huge import/VRT.

Our answer:

Hi Patrick,

There is indeed a flat-rate charge of €200 for any vintage car (which by Revenue’s standards means any car more than 30 years old) being imported. You will still need to book an inspection at your local NCT centre, but that will be mostly a formality to check all the paperwork. You may need to supply proof of CO2 emissions, which can be tricky for an older car, but it’s probably safe to assume that a ’64 ‘Vette is going to be above 225g/km…
