How much VAT will I pay on this imported Mercedes?
Hi I just bought a 1994 Mercedes 280SL from a private individual in London...I paid STG £5,000 for the car. What VAT do I have to pay on this car when I bring it into Ireland next week? I will drive it over myself Many thanks Diarmuid

Hi Diarmuid,
The VAT bill is 23 per cent of the Customs Value of the car - that's the purchase price plus Customs Duty plus shipping costs. The Customs Duty is 10 per cent of the purchase price, which you will also have to pay.
