For cars registered prior to 2008, our road tax laws go on the size of the vehicle’s engine and there are 22 bands in total. Mazda made the 2005MY 3 with a range of petrol and diesel engines that had capacities of 1,348cc (often badged a 1.4), 1,489cc, 1,498cc, 1,598cc and 1,999cc.  The first of those would be €385 per year, the second two €413 per year, the fourth €514 per year and the last €710 per year – so it depends what size engine the Mazda3 you’re interested in has.
