Hi I have an English registered car thatI am going to bring to Ireland. It a 2.9 crdti Hyudai Terracan 57 plate so 2008. How much would tax be in Ireland for this
Hi Geoff,
If that car was registered in 2008, as you say, then it goes under the CO2 bandings for road tax and, with 222g/km emitted, will sit in Band F, costing €1,200 per annum to tax. But you’ll also have to pay VRT for bringing it into Ireland, which’ll be set at 34 per cent of its Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) as a result of that CO2 figure – although, as an old Terracan like that won’t be worth much more than €3,500, the one-off bill here would be €1,190.
You really need to hurry up, though, as, following the Budget announcement, a new NOx levy will come into play as well after January 1, 2020, and that would add several thousand Euro to your bill to import such a car.
