I own a Mazda BT50 in Australia and will be returning to Ireland in November. I cannot find this type of vehicle in Ireland and was wondering how much tax I would pay for it. I would be using it as a commercial vehicle. TIA
Hi Richard,
The annual tax bill is the regular fixed €333 fee for pick-ups. To bring the Mazda in, it theoretically attracts a 13.3 per cent VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) fee, calculated as part of what Revenue calls the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) - it determines that and it doesn't always reflect what you paid for the vehicle. However, if you've had the truck registered in your name for more than six months, and you can prove that, you may not have to pay that.
