How much to tax a 141 BMW 5 Series?

Could you advise me on the tax for 141 BMW 5m sport

Our answer:

Hi Jacqui,

I assume you mean a 520d with the 2.0-litre diesel engine? There are a few different versions, which have different CO2 emissions and therefore different tax. A standard 520d with the (often-fitted) eight-speed automatic transmission is rated at 123g/km, which means Band B1 tax and €270 a year. The version with the six-speed manual gearbox has slightly higher CO2, at 125g/km, but there’s no change in the tax band. There was a special 520d EfficientDynamics model in 2014 too, which was a little more frugal, and could score a 119g/km CO2 rating and a Band A4 €200 tax bill, but that only came with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

It’s worth bearing in mind that those figures are achieved on the standard 17-inch alloy wheels. If you go for the optional 19-inch wheels, the CO2 figure rises to 131g/km, which means Band B2 tax. Thankfully, it’s only an extra tenner a year at €280. There was also a 518d model introduced in 2014, which uses the same 2.0-litre engine but with a bit less power and a potential 109g/km CO2 figure (Band A3, €190 a year to tax), but again, that depends on which gearbox and wheels are fitted.
