How much to import an Audi A6 from the North?

How much will it cost to import a 2011 Audi a6 2.0tdi into ireland from Northern Ireland

Our answer:

Hi Adam,

It depends on when the car first entered the North to be used there. It is possible that you'd be liable for VAT and import duty, so make sure you look up the rules before you commit to buying the car.

Aside from that, you'll be liable for VRT and the NOx levy. The latter is most likely the maximum figure, at €4,850. The VRT band depends on the CO2 emissions - and if only the old NEDC figure is available then Revenue will "uplift" it to a 'WLTP-equivalent' figure. We suspect that this car will therefore attract 30 per cent VRT.

From there you need to guess the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) for the car that Revenue might attach to it. We'd estimate €9,000. If that's the OMSP then VRT would be 30 per cent of that, or €2,700.

Make sure you check all these figures and the regulations yourself
