I have seen a very clean 2006 plate Toyota RAV4 D-4D 2.2 XT4 for sale. The car is £4,000 and has 160,000 miles on the clock. The vehicle also has the A bar, side steps and spare wheel. The vehicle is MOT'd until April 2016 and has a good service history with the same owner the last five years with one previous owner. How reliable would this vehicle be mechanically?
Hi Dave,
Yes, generally the RAV4 is very reliable but you do need to keep an eye on the clutch and flywheel assembly – higher mileage cars can need to have those replaced and it’s a big, expensive job. Listen for any nasty, rattling noises at tickover and see if the gearshift feels unnaturally stiff or it’s difficult to select a gear. Other than that, check underneath for signs of off-roading damage and have a good look a the paintwork – it’s a bit soft and prone to stone chips.
