In essence, a Ford Mondeo – like any car – could theoretically go on forever and have no upper limit to its mileage. As long as a car is rigorously maintained, serviced and repaired (if necessary) then they can last for a million kilometres or more; there are plenty of stories of 1960s classics that have, quite literally, covered the same distance as travelling to the Moon and back. In terms of the odometer display, they’re usually six digits so the maximum the Mondeo would display is 999,999km, but then it would just tick round to 000,000 and start counting the second million kilometres from zero again.

If you’re asking because you’ve seen a Ford Mondeo with high mileage showing and you’re wondering about its longevity, then that’s not unusual – they were often bought as company cars and can tend to do hundreds of thousands of kilometres. If you are looking at a high-mileage Mondeo, then all the usual second-hand car-buying rules apply: check its history thoroughly, check its service book to see it has been maintained, have a good inspection of the car to look for obvious signs of excessive wear and tear (to upholstery, fascias, alloy wheels, tyres, bodywork etc) and have a test run in it to see if it drives smoothly and quietly. If it satisfies all the criteria above, and the price is right, then there’s no reason to avoid it.
