Fuel economy varies massively depending on how, where and how fast a car is driven, not to mention how well maintained it is. We can, however, look at the official data to get a gauge.

That version of the Polo officially used 4.6 litres/100km on the 'combined' test cycle and it has a 40-litre tank. That would mean a range of up to 869km, or 540 miles. 

We'd expect most drivers to average higher fuel consumption than that, however.
