An odd one, because you say it’s a Vauxhall and not an Opel, and you also say it is reading in miles, not km – we’d not be surprised for a car’s fuel light to come on at 80km (50 miles) to empty, but 130km (80 miles) is excessive. Nevertheless, those ‘distance to empty’ (DTE) readings, on any car’s trip computer, are overly pessimistic for safety purposes – the manufacturers make them deliberately cautious about your range so that you fill up well before it runs out of fuel. We’re not saying you should gamble against a DTE reading that says 0km, but you’ve probably got a little more than 80 miles left in the tank once the light comes on; probably more like 100-110 miles.
