Hello, how does motor tax on plug in hybrid cars work? Is it the same across the board as in EVs or does it depend on the car? I can't make sense of the info in the revenue website.
Hi Angelica,
Annual motor tax on all cars registered after 2008 is charged according to their CO2 emissions rating. Generally, most plug-in hybrids emit less than 50g/km, which means they cost €140 a year to tax. The next bracket up, 51-80g/km costs just €150 a year.
