Hi Robert,
Well to start with the DC5 was never offered with a supercharger from the factory (the new Civic Type R is the first forced induction R) so that may somewhat negate the reliability thing.
Japanese auctions work on 'grades'. Grade 5 is factory fresh, 4 is well minded etc.
Due to powertrain change a supercharged DC5 would be graded 'N' no matter how well modified. It could be the best supercharger conversion carried out by a top Honda engineer in his spare time or someone throwing a wildly inappropriate charger onto an engine just about to blow - no real way to tell.
As for the VRT - it is what it is. VRT on Japanese cars has dropped from their heyday due to a drop in popularity but a 2004 DC5 is a 2004 DC5 and revenue knows how much they cost.
Best bet is to import a regular DC5 (Grade 4 or 5 if you can find it - paying particular attention to the auction report to ascertain reliability) and then supercharge it yourself.
