Supposedly simple really – you go to the Revenue.ie website and enter in the car’s details to their VRT calculator. That will give you a ballpark figure, with the final cost to be decided on when you present the car for its physical inspection at your NCT centre. Often though, the online calculator simply doesn’t have an exact match for the car you’re buying, which can make things awkward and put your valuation in the lap of the gods.
