How can I get rid of the smoking smell in my car?

I've just bought a second hand A4 - fab car, but last owner was a smoker. The dealer gave it a good valet but how can I get rid of the smoking smell?

Thanks

Hi Ciaran,

OK, there are a number of different options here. A really good spray down with a odour-eliminating spray, such as Febreze, might do the trick. It’s well worth actually removing the front seats to clean them properly, as that will allow you to get underneath at the carpet that’s normally out of reach. If Febreze or similar doesn’t work, try some good old household remedies – spray surfaces down with dilute vinegar for instance, or leave some bowls of activated charcoal in the car overnight. Flushing out the air conditioning system and replacing all the filters for the ventilation system might help too. Still not working? Try a really strong pet shampoo or dust everything with baking soda and then thoroughly hoover.
