We are resident in UK but have a house in Connemara which we like to spend at least 3 months of the year over the year. Car hire makes it expensive. Can you recommend a solution , buying car and storing on family land? . Thanks.
Hi Crispin,
You could buy a car in Ireland and store it as you've suggested and then declare it off the road for the time it is not being used. If you don't do that ahead of time, you will be responsible for motor tax. It does raise the question about insurance and security of the car. I would have thought it was cheaper to rent a car for three months.
Another option of course is to bring over a car with you from the UK for the duration of your stay.
