Normally speaking, it would be a little early to be planning that, but given the delay on new cars, it's probably worth a look now. Theoretically, you could get more for your existing car if you sell it privately, though that comes with a lot more hassle and some risk, too, never mind the issue of timing, as it's impossible to predict how long it will take to sell your car. The simplest thing to do is to trade the car in against the new one, even if it means you may get less for it.
To that end, I'd suggest bringing your car into your local Ford dealership right away and discuss the plan with them. Whether you're selling privately or part-exchanging, it's probably still a good idea to get the order for the new car in the pipeline right away.
