Has Opel improved its diesel engines?

I have an opel insigina 09 2cdti and have experienced problems with the dm flywheel/clutch and crankshaft bearings , despite this i like the insigina . on the newer models 2015+ have they changed anything or rectified these problems

Our answer:

Hi Jimmy,

We thought it best to ask Opel about that one. Here's the response:

"The 2.0 engine has evolved over the years, with revisions in 2012 and 2014, and the 1.6 Whisper Diesel was launched in 2015. Both revisions to the 2.0 resulted in a more efficient engine, while also being smoother and more powerful.  The flywheel is designed to prevent engine vibrations being transferred to the transmission on the car, and the later, smoother engines contribute to a longer lifespan of the flywheel.

Crankshaft bearings are a simple item, with little change in design in the last 50 years by any engine manufacturer.  Failure of these is quite rare, and is usually caused by oil starvation or oil quality problems.  Changes have been made to the oil system in the later revised engines.”

Hope that helps
