Going to look at a 2003 Ford Focus 1.4 Zetec; what problems should I look out for before doing a deal? Car has no NCT.

Hi Neil,
The suspension is the weak point – there have been lots of reports of breakages and failures, so listen carefully for creaks, knocks or clonks and if the car doesn’t feel smooth and positive to drive, it’s a wrong ‘un. The engine control unit (ECU) can also give trouble, so if there are any signs of a misfire, avoid. If it has no NCT, you need to find out why. Has it failed the NCT and if so for what reason? Or has the seller decided not to NCT it before selling? If so, why? Are they afraid that it won’t pass?
