We’ve assumed a mileage of less than 80,000km (50,000 miles) and so there are plenty of C-segment hatchbacks available to you in your budget that would suit – the Peugeot 308, Renault Megane, Skoda Octavia, SEAT Leon, Ford Focus and Opel Astra, to name a few. However, if you want a newer, lower mileage vehicle for the same cash, Dacias are always hard to ignore: the Sandero hatch is OK but quite basic, but the Duster SUV is readily available to you and is a decent machine. The car we saw the most for your budget, though, and the one we’re going to recommend is a pre-facelift Citroen C4 Cactus. It has character, it’s spacious, it’s comfortable and you can get a good 1.2-litre petrol second-hand example for less than €12,000.
