Evoque or Grand Cherokee?

Evoque or Grand Cherokee?

I am looking at buying a used Evoque 2012 with 77kms on the clock. Is this wise? My alternative is a jeep grand cherokee. Which is best and most cost effective in terms of parts?

Our answer:

Hi Becky,

Two very, very different cars and neither is going to be cheap to run. The Evoque is one of the better-built Land Rovers, but it’s still prone to electrical gremlins and glitches, so don’t dare buy one without a full service history and you will need to budget for servicing and parts that come at premium prices. The Jeep won’t be cheap to run either — a Grand Cherokee is much bigger than an Evoque and its 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine is quite thirsty. Parts aren’t too bad (especially if you can source them direct from the USA), but servicing will still be somewhat pricey if you go the main dealer route. By and large, I’d expect it to be somewhat more reliable than an Evoque, but if reliability is really a key factor for you, ignore both of these and go Japanese...
