That points to an electrical issue. Changing an engine is always a difficult job, especially with the complication of modern wiring looms. If the wiring to the starter etc. is all correct, and there are no unconnected earths, then the next thing to think about might be whether or not the engine's management computer needs to be paired with the ignition and immobiliser, etc. It can be a tricky job getting it all working without access to the manufacturer's own computer systems.
