There are a couple of reported issues, including problems with the crankshaft position sensors, seized camshafts and carbon build-up in the sump, but in general it seems that most of the problems can be traced back to lack of maintenance. Perhaps people assume that, because Hyundai has a good reliability reputation and a long warranty, that they don’t need to stick to the service schedule. Our advice would be that the Santa Fe is a very reliable car overall, but never buy one that doesn’t have a full and proper service history with all the right stamps and receipts.
