Engine failure is not a widespread known issue with the Evoque, or any 2013 car for that matter, and it really does depend what you mean by engine failure. Was there an oil supply problem causing big-end bearing failure, for example? 

One possibility is a known issue with engine coolant leaking through the EGR cooler. If left unfixed, and the engine overheated, it could cause damage to the head gasket and cylinder head and block too.
