Does this timing belt price sound right?

Hyundai I40 Blue 1.6 Estate. 165,000 miles. Told its a little noisey and needs a timing belt. Been quoted nearly £900 for parts and labour.. Is that correct? Many thanks

Our answer:

Hi Mark,

Timing belts don't usually get noisy, so perhaps it's a tensioner causing that. The belt on that car should be changed at least every 240,000km in any case - along with the idler and tensioner - so if it has never been done, it should be. Assuming that price includes all of those parts then it doesn't sound over the top, but we'd always recommend motorists shop around when getting work done.
