Does this Mondeo sound like a good buy?

Am thinking of buying a 2008 mondeo titanium diesel manual with 160000 motorway miles, has had a new turbo and cam belt at 145000 and had reciepts to prove it. Would this still be a good buy with such high mileage and what do I need to look out for, any advice Thanks

Our answer:

Hi Tim,

If it has just had its turbo and cam belt done a mere 15,000 miles ago, then this is a sound purchase proposition. On high-mileage, modern turbodiesels like these, the most common thing to go wrong is the turbo, so this Mondeo appears to be a ‘good one’. Beyond that, the usual high-mileage used car-buying techniques apply: look for excessive wear of interior fixtures and fittings (badly worn pedals, steering wheel, seat bolsters etc) that might indicate the mileage isn’t quite as accurate as first thought, check the bodywork for obvious signs of (undeclared) crash repairs in the past (big panel gaps, mis-matched paint etc) and go through the paperwork/history of the car with a fine-toothed comb before committing to buy.
