Does this Insignia sound ok?

Hi Shane, I went for test drive in a 2012 Vauxhall insignia, was driving perfect until service light came on and power died, car struggled to get up to 4th gear, Diesel light was also on, is this just a safety feature, dealer said it will be fully serviced before it sold

Our answer:

Hi Morgan,

That really sounds like the symptoms of a clogged-up diesel particulate filter (DPF), which would not normally be dealt with in a routine service. Insist that the DPF is either professionally cleaned or replaced before you take delivery of the car as it's an expensive fix. And if you do go ahead with the deal, ensure that the DPF warning light is still working and not just disabled, before you hand over payment.

If it isn't the DPF, then some other issue is causing the car to go into 'limp home' mode. Serviceable items don't usually do that.
