Adequate? Yes, but only just. It's not just the power, because the gap between it and the gruntier engine is pretty slim in real terms, it's the torque. The 120hp engine is packing 290Nm compared to 320Nm for t'other. That 30Nm is a distinct advantage in a car as hefty as an A4. For getting around town or just cruising along the motorway, the 120hp version would be ok (albeit probably less economical as you'll have to work it harder), but you'll notice the lack of oomph on other roads.
