Yes and yes. The N47 diesel engine saga has been dragging on for a long, long time now. Theoretically, from 2012 onwards, the issue was fixed, but we’ve heard of trouble on cars from after that date. So yes, make sure you get it checked, and if during the test drive you hear a high-pitched ‘tinkling’ sound coming from the engine, walk away as it means the chain is about to go. It’s best to buy one with a full BMW main dealer service history, as you might get some comeback then if anything does happen.
