Does the 1.6-litre engine give trouble?
Hi, I changing cars from an 06 Ford Galaxy. I was thinking of a 2011 Peugeot 5008 or Mazda5 or Citroën C4. I can't fully decide; however, a colleague has said stay away from the 1.6 engines as they give terrible trouble. Can you make my decision any easier with a recommendation please?

Hi Martina,
The 1.6 diesel engine common to all these cars isn't unreliable - it just needs a little care. The crucial thing is the oil. Make sure it's changed regularly and that a proper high grade of synthetic oil is used. It's worth thinking of an engine flush once in a while too to remove the gunk that builds up and which can cause failures.
Of those three, the Mazda will probably be the most reliable and it's also rather nice to drive.
