The Skoda 1.2 HTP engine (that’s the non-turbo engine fitted to the Fabia, mostly) has a timing chain, so is theoretically maintenance-free in that respect. Worth getting it checked out though, and make sure you use a high-quality oil when topping up. There is a smaller rubber belt that drives the car’s alternator, which may need replacing, but it’s a relatively small and affordable part to change.
