Does my Mokka need a chain?

i have a vauxhall mokka 2015 1.6 cdti. which i took to my vauxhall approved garage because of reduced power performance.they did a diagnostic test which came back ok,however they did say that the car needs a new timing chain, is this correct as the car has only done 27780 miles.

Our answer:

Hi Peter,

This sounds really unusual to us. That's very low mileage, which would lead us to suspect something gummed up due to lack of use and higher engine speeds and temperatures. Indeed, it's known that the turbocharger vane position actuator venilation hole can get blocked with debris, causing lack of power, and it's a simple thing to fix. Even if that does not cure your problem, I'd demand a fuller explanation as to why the garage thinks the chain needs to be replaced, as it's a big job and very expensive.
