Does my Mokka have a cambelt?

Does my Mokka have a cambelt?

I have just purchased a 2014 vauxhall mokka petrol it has done 97000 km. Can any one tell me if it is a chain cambelt? I don't know much about cars so advice would be helpful

Our answer:

Hi Ann,

An engine generally either has a timing chain or a timing belt. The latter is also referred to as a cambelt. Timing chains don't usually come with a scheduled replacement time, but timing belts do. That varies by engine.

In terms of your car, you didn't mention the engine size, and that does matter, as every engine is different. The 1.4-litre petrol Mokkas use a timing chain, whereas the 1.6 petrol uses a timing belt, for example.
