Does my Jaguar need this big service?

My XF has done 73000 and the last service it had(4th) main dealer carried out 96,000 service. Now they tell me it needs a major service including timing belt change. Is this right?

Our answer:

Hi David,

You've not told us which year your car is, nor which engine is under the bonnet. Assuming it's the 2015-2020 2.0 diesel, there is a service indicator, though it is recommended that the car is serviced at least every 34,000km or two years. Aside from that, there are brake hoses to replace every six years, brake fluid every two years, air and fuel filters every 68,000km/four years and finally, every 170,000km or 10 years the auxiliary belts, transmission fluid and engine coolant should all be renewed.

Now, this engine has a timing chain, not a timing belt, so perhaps that isn't yours. Come back to us with more details if you'd like us to look into it further.
