Does my Ibiza really need this work?

Does my Ibiza really need this work?

So I have had my thermostat housing replaced due to it leaking and resulting in low coolant level. The coolant then started leaking again a week later and it had to go back to the garage again for it draining. A week after it’s leaked a third time and they’ve now said it needs a new water pump due to all the pressure, so I’m having to have that replaced. Someone has told me that if your water pump is replaced then it will have to have a new cam belt, is this correct? My Ibiza only has 28,000 on the clock and is a 2018 model. Is this all correct, are the garage doing the right thing here?

Our answer:

Hi Heather,

That sounds very unfortunate. I can't comment on the work done to fix the coolant leak, etc, but yes, if the water pump is to be replaced then it is customary to replace the timing belt, too. It doesn't matter that it would not yet be time to replace the belt if there was no water pump issue.
