Does my Fabia need a new belt?

Does my Fabia need a new belt?

My 3 cylinder 1 litre Skoda Fabia estate DH66XXX has completed 46,000 miles. Skoda claim I need a new cambelt at a cost of £500. None of the 7 previous Skodas I have owned have needed such a belt change at such a high cost. What are your thoughts?

Our answer:

Hi William,

It seems a little early in the car's life to need a replacement belt, though the price is probably standard for a main dealer. If the car is no longer under warranty with Skoda, we'd suggest getting a second price and opinion from an independent garage.
