We're assuming it's the A1 you are referring to. There were two different variants of that 1.4-litre petrol engine. The version with 'cylinder-on-demand' technology, putting out 140hp, uses a timing belt. The regular engine, available in 122hp and 185hp states of tune, uses a timing chain.
