Does a private van need an annual test?

hi Shane, I have a new Renault Trafic van 1999cc on order and it is for private use only. Does it have to have an NCR every year? Beginning to think it might be not such a good idea to have a van in Ireland due to costs. Regs Chrissy Thankyou for answering the cost of road tax

Our answer:

Hi Chrissy,

Yes, even privately-owned commercial vehicles have to go through the CVRT (Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test) every year. Note, not the NCT, but a different test specific to commercial vehicles. It's about €111 for the Trafic van.
