Hi I own a vauxhall zafira tourer 64 plate, when it was in for its last service I was advised that the timing belt would need replacing soon to the cost of around £550 which I thought was quite pricey, I have been advised since to find out if my vehicle actually has a belt or a chain, could you help with this matter please?
Hi Richard,
Replacing a timing belt is quite a lot of work - and usually involves replacing other items such as the water pump and maybe even the tensioner and pulleys.
Anyway, you never mentioned which engine your car has. Some had belts, some chains. The 2.0 diesels have timing belts for example, while the 1.6 diesel has a timing chain. If that doesn't cover your car, come back to us with full details and we can look it up for you.
Ask us anything motoring related and please provide as much information as possible so we can give you the most accurate advice.
