Do I need to change the timing belt in my Focus?

I have Ford Focus 2019 1 Litre Petrol Engine St line, I have driven only 58,000 Kms, Does the timing belt needs to be replaced ? So far the Car runs fine there is no Engine light NCT is till 2027 Jan. Any insight will be helpful.

Our answer:

Hi Rohit,

Unless a timing belt slips or breaks there will be no engine light or any other indication that it requires changing. If your engine is the 125hp version then it has a timing chain with a small auxiliary timing belt for the oil pump drive. Neither of these have set replacement schedules. The two lower-powered versions of the same engine use a "wet" timing belt. Best to check with your Ford dealer when they suggest it should be changed, though generally it's at least every 150,000km or 10 years (whichever comes first).

However, wet timing belts often degrade earlier if the correct oil isn't used and oil changes are not carried out regularly, so no harm having it looked at by a good mechanic at every service.
